Slim production and enterprise reference planning systems are often cited as being the two most important approaches for achieving competitive advantage in today's global manufacturing environments. Though IT has customarily been viewed as a contributor to squander within lean production, we all suggest that modern developments in IT and the onset of cross types ‘‘push-pull'' development control components have allowed ERP and lean methods to converge toward a state in which ERP systems can in fact be used to support the deployment of lean procedures. This paper analyses typical lean and ERP setup processes contained within the scientific literature, through further reviewing a concurrent implementation method in real-time, we develop and offer a process pertaining to ERP-based slim implementations. The findings claim that the implementation of a modern ERP system can behave as a catalyst for the application of lean creation practices. ß 2012 Elsevier B. Sixth is v. All legal rights reserved.

1 ) Introduction There will be a continuous debate in the literature whether or not or certainly not lean development and technology can be effectively combined within an enterprise (e. g. [6, 9, 15]). However , used, companies have been building hybrid environments through which they take benefit of lean creation practices caused by innovations in technology for quite some time [48]. This article attempts to shed light on the argument by addressing the parallel using both strategies. By using an action analysis methodology, we examine the concurrent using ERP and lean creation practices within a single corporation, in order to develop an ERP-based lean implementation process. Nevertheless coverage of such dual-implementations is currently really low, Masson and Jacobson [35] suggest that ERP-based lean implementations will grow over time. We draw parallels between the ERP and trim implementation operations, and show the way the ERP rendering process can in fact behave as a catalyst to get lean execution. In order to guide our query, we present the following research question: RQ. How can existing methodologies pertaining to the setup of slim production and ERP devices be put together to develop an individual ‘‘best-practice'' procedure for ERP-based lean implementations?

1 . 1 . Enterprise useful resource planning (ERP) systems ERP is one of the most generally accepted options to obtain competitive advantage for manufacturing companies [66]. ERP devices are designed to give seamless the use of processes across efficient areas with improved workflow, standardization of various business practices, and usage of realtime data [32]. The fundamental benefits of ERP systems do not in fact are derived from their natural ‘‘planning'' capabilities but rather off their abilities to process ventures efficiently and provide structured record keeping structures to get such deals [24]. Erlend Alfnes is an associate professor in the Norwegian University of Technology and Technology, Department of Production and Quality Anatomist. He is as well senior analysis associate in SINTEF Technology and Society, Department of Operations Management. He has 12year knowledge from nationwide and international research projects, and it is the leader of two nationwide research projects. His research pursuits are production planning and control, enterprise resource planning systems, and manufacturing strategy.

Jan Landa Strandhagen can be described as professor on the department of production and quality architectural at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. His analysis activities give attention to manufacturing technique, the use of ICT for current planning and control in plants and manufacturing sites and collaborative performance managing. Professor Strandhagen is also analysis director on the NORMAN Analysis Centre, for SINTEF Technology and Contemporary society, also in Trondheim.

Heidi C. Dreyer is a mentor and helper head of department on the department of production and quality anatomist at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Trondheim, Norway. Her research interests concentrate on supply string management and collaboration, preparing and control models in supply stores, use of ICT, logistics and distribution strategy. She is the senior study scientist for SINTEF Technology and Society.
